Covert Estate
Kristi Devine is the Director of Hospitality (aka The Hospitality Maven) at Covert Estate. She began her wine industry career at 18 helping plan events for wineries in Sonoma County. Once she turned 21, she became something of a “jack of all trades” for a small but growing portfolio of family wineries. With a degree in Wine Business and a knack for launching brands, Kristi landed in Napa and began her search for the company that would combine her love for wine and entrepreneurial vision. Finding both and more at the newly opened Covert Estate in Coombsville, Kristi currently works with winemaker and co-owner, Julien Fayard and his small team. Her attention to detail, savvy sales presence and overall bright spirit blend perfectly with the “work hard, play hard” Covert philosophy.
Covert Estate began as the shared passion of three wine-loving couples: Julien and Elan Fayard, who founded Azur Wines and Fayard Wines and provide consulting services to many boutique Napa Valley producers; Cal and Pam Nicholson, Napa vintners, founders of Nicholson-Jones Wines and longtime library collectors; and Dave and Laura Nestor, accomplished equestrians, management gurus and California wine aficionados. Recognizing the enormous untapped potential of the Coombsville AVA, the partners purchased the estate property in 2012, just a few months after the appellation was formally recognized by the TTB. They then designed and built the caves with the primary goal of respecting the natural beauty of the land, and leaving a minimal human imprint; the same approach they take with their winemaking.
Covert Estate's limited-production estate red wines celebrate the largely undiscovered terroir of Coombsville with the craftsmanship of winemaker Julien Fayard. Guided by his training at Château Lafite, Lafite Rothschild and decade of experience working with Napa Valley's most prized vineyards, Fayard invokes intuition and technique to unearth the elegant secrets of the terroir and forge distinctively aromatic wines with a true sense of place. Covert's age-worthy estate wines set new standards for Coombsville Cabernet with their freshness, enduring aromatics and polished tannin structure.
